Journal 2

After registering for this class, I was excited to be in an environment designated for yoga practice, but due to the current circumstances I now practice yoga in the comfort of my home. Specifically, I find a nice blanket to lay on some open space in my room and light a fragranced candle to set the tone of relaxation. Being alone, while practicing in my own space gives me a sense of freedom. There is no reason for me to feel challenged or intimidated by others' more experienced since it's just me and my virtual instructor.     Personally, this is what makes my practice space sacred. I appreciate the ability to grow at my own pace. Also, having the option to pause and continue the yoga content is helpful. In order to perfect particular positions, sometimes I need a minute to become aware of my body. Luckily my home is pretty quiet so I don't experience any interruptions or distractions. Therefore, by the end of the semester, I hope to learn how to ...

Journal 1

During my first yoga session, I immediately noticed the tone of my instructors voice. She spoke in a calm, friendly, and assuring tone as she gave instructions. It was her voice that initially set the ambiance for me. The structure of the class was beginner friendly. The instructor guided us through every position and kept reminding us to breathe. Pranayama was the instructors focus of this class; she wanted us to connect with our breath in order to execute the positions that were novel to our bodies. She encouraged us to keep our backs straight and legs locked through certain positions while also letting the energy of the burn we felt, transfer outward through our fingertips and toes. This was helpful to me, as I felt more in control of the sensation I was feeling. I enjoyed the way my mind and body was put as ease by the breathing techniques. Now I am excited to become more skilled at asana and also learn how to meditate like a professional.
